James R Addison was born in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. He graduated from Haddon Heights High School and was a well-known semi-pro player in the South Jersey area.

 

Addison worked for the Esterbrook Pen Company and the New York Shipbuilding Company's yards in Camden before entering military service in March 1944. Private Addison took basic training at Camp Blanding, Florida and was sent to Europe as an infantry replacement in September 1944.

 

One month after arriving in Europe, on October 21, 1944, Private James Addison was killed in action with the 9th Infantry Division during the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest in Belgium.

 

Addison was buried at the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery in Belgium. He was survived by his wife, Mary, and their daughter, Judith.
