William F "Bill" Hansen was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1921. He signed with Greenville Lions of the Alabama State League in 1941, batted .339 with seven home runs and finished the season with the Fort Pierce Bombers of the Florida East Coast League. He was with Statesville at the start of the 1942 season but was signed by the Green Bay Blue Jays of the Wisconsin State League in June and batted .310 with 57 RBIs.
Hansen's contract was purchased by the Milwaukee Brewers of the American Association at the end of 1942, but military service beckoned before he had the opportunity to report.
Sergeant Hansen served with the Army in Europe. In January 1945 He died of wounds received in combat in Belgium.
