Carlyle J "Curly" Kopp was born in Buffalo Center, Iowa on November 25, 1919. Kopp graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1937 and played that year for the Forest City Collegians semi-pro team.
He first played professional baseball with the Worthington Cardinals in the Western League in 1940. The young outfielder and lead-off hitter batted .264 that season. He was with the Sioux City Soos in 1941 and batted .241. Kopp was to join Hamilton in the Kitty League for 1942, but he entered military service before the season began.
Kopp joined the USAAF and lost his life in a plane crash in the United States during 1944.
