Carl H "Kappy" Scott was born in Transfer, near Sharon, Pennsylvania in 1912. Scott was one of the best pitchers ever to come out of the area. A left-hander, he first won fame with the Sharpsville Giants and soon attracted attention from professional scouts.

 

Scott played for Monessen in the Pennsylvania State League. He entered military service with the US Army in December 1943 and arrived in Europe on July 8, 1944.

 

Serving with the 330th Infantry Regiment of the 83rd Infantry Division, Private Scott was killed in action in Normandy, France. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
